Cracks is an animation built from hundreds of still photographs of road cracks throughout Vinalhaven, Maine

In the first few days at the Poor Farm during Productive Counter Production, I understood something of a habit — when walking I tend to look down often. And it’s in looking down that I’ve noticed objects that have become fascinations, spawning variations on themes — like in An Incomplete Taxonomy.  

During walks I noticed how cracks in the asphalt crept along, like spidery pencil lines, tracing their own paths or burst open, wider and wider, into gaping mouths of sandy pebble teeth. I began to photograph them and then order and organize them by length — a catalog of cracks.
